We're going to ride back to California

Riding from Chicago to New York City was so much fun that we've decided to attempt to ride the rest of the way across the USA!

We are approaching the end of our ride from Chicago to New York City; we should arrive in Brooklyn tomorrow! The ride has been a lot of fun, just as we'd hoped. So, we've decided to try to ride the bits between Chicago and California. We'll take some time off in Brooklyn to hang out with Lulu, relax, do a little touristing, and send our bikes in for a spa day. In about a week we will take an Amtrak train back to Chicago.

The timing does not feel right for attempting the original route we had planned. That would have taken us farther north and over higher passes at a time of the year where there'd be a fair chance we'd encounter snow. The Adventure Cycling Association has designed a more southerly route, Bicycle Route 66, which we hope will be just as interesting and with a higher chance of being able to complete it safely this year.
